GOLD looking forward 11/03/2010

OVER-50s in Darlington are invited to find out more about GOLD, Growing Older Living in Darlington, at a special GOLD ‘Looking Forward’ celebration day on Monday 15 March.

GOLD works to improve the life of people aged over 50-years in Darlington. The group brings together Darlington groups and organisations whose work impacts on older people, to try to ensure that services meet the needs of the over-50s.

The free celebration event, to be held on Monday 15 March from 4.30pm-7pm (with free buffet) in the Dolphin Centre’s Central Hall, will include a review of GOLD’s work over the last few years and discussion around what issues need to be addressed going forward.

Presentations will include Dignity in Care, Mental Health Services and Early Intervention, followed by workshops where participants can say which areas of their lives could be improved and how these improvements could be achieved. Representatives from a variety of agencies and organisations will be on hand to speak to visitors about their services including housing, pensions, volunteering, health and leisure and exercise.

GOLD organises many events aimed at the over-50s throughout the year including the annual summer town centre tea dance, a positive health day, Christmas parties and works with local school pupils on inter-generational projects. GOLD is also actively involved in promoting health care for the over-50s including holding a monthly health group with links to Darlington Memorial Hospital services.

GOLD Chair Brian Jefferson, said: “Everyone is welcome at GOLD’s Looking Forward event and help shape the GOLD agenda for the coming year. You don’t even have to be a member of GOLD to come along to enjoy it.”
